In advance of the St. Petersburg G-8 Summit, Hudson Institute published Another Look at Putin’s Soul, a volume of essays by Senior Visiting Fellow Andrei Piontkovsky.  The collection analyzes Russian domestic and foreign policy from 2001-06, especially President Putin’s declaratory shift from solidarity with the U.S. after 9/11 (“Americans, we are with you”) to his comparison of America to “Comrade Wolf…[who]…knows whom to eat…and eats without listening.”  The book argues that Russia and the West cannot remain divided in the face of serious joint challenges.

“[Piontkovsky] is a profound thinker whose definitions and interpretations of the events in our lives have quite simply become part of the canon of Russian political thought.”

-Andrei Illarionov, former Senior Economics Advisor to President Putin

“Andrei Piontkovsky’s honest, stinging and insightful commentaries on the Russian president in particular, and Russian politics in general, follow the long tradition in Russia of ‘laughter through tears’.”

-Lt. Gen. William E. Odom (ret.), Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute
