After three years in Iraq, ongoing violence and political instability have raised serious questions about the U.S. current strategy in the country. As arguments over U.S. courses in Iraq abound in policy circles and media sources, the Baker commission – headed by former Secretary of State James Baker and former congressman Lee Hamilton -- has been appointed by Congress to look into the situation in Iraq. Two Iraqi observers, Abdul Aziz al Wandawi and Nibras Kazimi, will present an insider assessment of Iraq and what future actions can be taken.
Abdel-Aziz al Wandawi is the Director General of Information at the Higher National Commission for De-Ba'athification. A former engineer, he participated in the drafting of the Iraqi constitution.
Nibras Kazimi is a visiting scholar at the Hudson Institute. He also writes a weekly column on the Middle East for the New York Sun. Previously, he directed the Research Bureau of the Iraqi National Congress in Washington DC and Baghdad, and was a pro-bono advisor for the Higher National Commission for De-Ba'athification, which he helped establish and staff.
