Effectiveness: How should philanthropy judge its success?

 

This dialogue took place on June 15, 2006 in Atlanta, GA. The Georgia Humanities Council and the Southeastern Council on Foundations co-hosted the event at the Loudermilk Center.

 

Five opinion pieces were prepared for the discussion:

"On Being Effective: How Should Philanthropy Judge Itself?" by Jamila S. Owens
"Effectiveness in Philanthropy – A Commonsense Approach" by Ellen Remmer
"Some Problems and Virtues in Thinking about Effectiveness" by David H. Smith
"The Cleric and the Child" by Jamil Zainaldin

 

Discussants also drew from the short story "The Beggar" by Anton Chekhov
