First Roundtable on Civic Philanthropy: Goals and Intentions

September 28, 2006, 12:30 - 2:00 PM - Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. Headquarters

Reading: “Address on the Tenth Anniversary of the Rockefeller Institute” by Frederick Gates (p 44-50)

About Giving Well, Doing Good:

This forthcoming anthology explores the enterprise of philanthropy—its assumptions, its aspirations, and its achievements. Addressed to current and prospective donors, as well as trustees, leaders, and staff of foundations and nonprofit organizations, it seeks to illuminate fundamental questions about the idea and practice of philanthropy, questions of great importance to philanthropy’s future. More specifically, it aims to promote more thoughtful discourse about practical issues facing the philanthropic sector and to point a way toward a philanthropic practice that is more responsible, more responsive, and more civic-spirited.

Hopefully you can tell us whether the anthology’s readings and introductions measure up to its “goals and intentions."
