The Entrepreneurial Society:
Is What’s Good for the Industrialist Good for the Entrepreneur?

Monday, September 17, 2007, 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Betsy and Walter Stern Conference Center
Hudson Institute
1015 15th Street, N.W., 6th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005

The entrepreneurial society has emerged as the pro-active and positive response to globalization, where change is the rule and innovation the source of competitiveness, growth, and jobs. Entrepreneurs, however, react differently to government incentives that encourage industrial, managed corporations. To be discussed is the danger – in these uncertain financial times – of not resorting to regulations and taxation that will curtail the entrepreneurship on which long-term American prosperity depends.

Professor David Audretsch of the Max Planck Institute of Economics and Indiana University, author of The Entrepreneurial Society, will discuss how different policies must be used to encourage entrepreneurial growth and industrial expansion. Dr. Charles Wessner, of the National Academies Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy; and Irwin Stelzer, director of the Hudson Institute Center for Economic Policy Research, will comment.
