Allies and Energy: Poland, the United States, and Transatlantic CooperationFebruary 1, 2008, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM - Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. Headquarters ALLIES AND ENERGY: Featuring a keynote address by RADOSLAW SIKORSKI, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Poland Click Here for Minister Sikorski's Remarks Friday, February 1, 2008 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Over the past decade, Poland has emerged as a key European ally of the United States. Although this partnership extends across many issues, energy security is of particular interest to both countries. This event will examine the role that transatlantic cooperation—particularly between Poland and the United States—can play in enhancing Europe's energy security. Speakers will address how existing frameworks of cooperation like NATO can be bolstered to address European energy security concerns. Following introductory remarks by Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, the event featured two panels. The first approached the Poland-US energy security partnership from a broader perspective, focusing on transatlantic-level challenges. The second dove more deeply into the energy security situation of the Baltic region, covering the latest developments on energy diversification, regional cooperation, and infrastructure projects. The second panel also discussed means of elevating Eastern/Central European energy issues to EU-level concerns.
