The Situation in BoliviaOn the Eve of the National ReferendumTuesday, July 29th, 2008 12:00 – 2:00 PM
On the eve of the national recall vote scheduled for August 10 that could end Evo Morales' reign, Hudson's Center for Latin American Studies was pleased to bring together Eduardo Paz, President of the Business Chamber of Santa Cruz, an autonomous region within Bolivia, and Stephen Donehoo, Managing Director of McLarty Associates, to discuss the social and economic context of this referendum. Despite the order from a Constitutional judge to suspend the referendum, both the Electoral Tribunal and the Government have stated that it will go on as planned. Will Morales ignore a possible negative outcome? What are the alternatives, and what effect will they have not only on the Bolivian political sphere, but also in general on South America?
Eduardo Paz President of the Business Chamber of Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Stephen Donehoo Managing Director, McLarty Associates
Jaime Daremblum Director, Hudson's Center for Latin American Studies (Moderator)
