cordially invites you to a book discussion and luncheon seminar

THE EFFECTS OF RACE ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Tuesday, February 3, 2009, 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Betsy and Walter Stern Conference Center
Hudson Institute
1015 15th Street, N.W., 6th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005

Robert Fairlie, professor of economics at the University of California (Santa Cruz), will discuss his topical new book, Race and Entrepreneurial Success, in which he examines recent racial disparities in business performance. Why do Asian-American owned firms perform better than white-owned businesses? Why do African-American owned firms tend to be less successful? Access to financial capital is found to be the most important determinant of success among entrepreneurs. Drawing on a rarely used, restricted-access dataset compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau, the book explores additional explanations for why some entrepreneurs are successful and others are not.

This event is free and open to public. Lunch will be served and copies of the books will be available for purchase.
