This important lunch discussion provided a platform for African Finance Ministers, the African Diplomatic Corps, and U.S. business and policy leaders to advance strategies to increase capital flows to Africa. Private capital has emerged as the leading source of monetary flows to developing countries, and remittances represent a vital source of this capital. Particularly important for the region in the wake of the global economic crisis are SME development, private equity, Diaspora bond issuance, portfolio investments and other financial instruments.
