Global Philanthropy: Skating to Where the Puck Is Going to Be

May 12, 2011, 12:00 - 2:00 PM - Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. Headquarters

Global Philanthropy:

Skating to Where the Puck Is Going to Be

Thursday, May 12

12:00 - 2:00 PM

"The Great One," Wayne Gretzky, when asked how he could always skate to where the puck was, answered: "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been." Four distinguished panelists shared their insights into where the puck is going to be in global philanthropy – how philanthropy is transforming government aid, and how new forms of giving are transforming philanthropy.

Hudson Institute's Center for Global Prosperity was proud to launch the 2011 Index of Global Philanthropy and Remittances, the annual summary of the magnitude and sources of private giving to the developing world, now in its 6th year of publication.

Panelists included:

Adelman, Johnson, Raymond,
Whittle, and Simms
Byron Johnson, Director of the Institute for Studies of Religion, Baylor University

Susan Raymond, Executive Vice President of Changing our World, Inc.

David Simms, Board Chair, Opportunity International Network

Dennis Whittle, President of the Whittle Group and co-founder of GlobalGiving

Carol Adelman, Senior Fellow and Director Center for Global Prosperity, moderated the discussion.
