Latin American Recognition of a Palestinian "State"—Repercussions for U.S. and Israeli Diplomacy

Wednesday, May 25
12:00 - 3:00 PM

Since December 2010, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay have endorsed an independent Palestinian State that does not yet exist. Why have these countries chosen to recognize the Palestinian Authority (PA) as a state before final status talks in the Middle East peace process are resolved? Does the move challenge traditional U.S. leadership in the region? Is there a link between these diplomatic initiatives and Iran's growing footprint in the region?

To analyze the drive for Palestinian recognition in Latin America and the declining American and Israeli influence in the region this portends, Hudson Institute's Center for Latin American Studies hosted a discussion with leading regional experts and specialists on the Middle East.
