Health Care and Innovation in Japan

Monday, June 27
3:00 - 4:30 PM
Grand Hyatt Hotel
1000 H St, NW
Washington, DC

Japan's health care system has faced major structural pressures due to a chronically weak economy and a rapidly aging demographic cohort. These problems were exacerbated by the long-term economic and public health effects of the devastation from the March 11th tsunami and crisis at the Fukushima reactor.

On Monday, June 27th, to examine Japan's health care system, its future and prospects for reform and the potential impact of innovation, notably in the biotechnology sector, Hudson Institute in cooperation with Amgen, Inc. hosted a special panel discussion in association with the 2011 Bio convention entitled "Health Care and Innovation in Japan."

    Weinstein, Troy, Torii, Norris, Reese

The panel featured:

Yoichi Torii, Director, Health and Welfare, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)

Tevi Troy, Hudson Institute Senior Fellow

Jerry Norris, Hudson Institute Senior Fellow

David Reese, Vice President for Medical Sciences, Amgen

The discussion was moderated by Hudson Institute President and CEO Kenneth Weinstein.
