Exploring the Changing Face of Foreign Aid: Private Philanthropy vs. Government Funding Roundtable Discussion

When: December 2, 2010, 12:00 p.m. - 2: 00 p.m.

Where: IRG, 1211 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C.

Until recently, most aid from rich to poor countries was transmitted through official bilateral and multilateral channels. However, the rapid growth in international grantmaking from foundations, charities, and philanthropic individuals that is essentially a private form of development aid raises a host of questions. How is aid allocated? Which countries or regions are selected and according to what criteria? How long do funding strategies last? Drawing on his recent report, Brookings expert and Georgetown Professor, Dr. Raj Desai will examine these critical questions along with Rob Buchanan, President of the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation and Dr. Carol Adelman, Director, The Hudson Institute's Center for Global Prosperity.
