Hudson Fellow Husain Haqqani has been officially designated Pakistan's new Ambassador to the United States. Directly prior to his appointment, Haqqani worked as a fellow with Hudson's Center for Islam, Democracy, and the Future of the Muslim World and co-edited Hudson's journal Current Trends in Islamist Ideology. The latest issue of Current Trends contains an article by Haqqani called, "The Politicization of American Islam."
Haqqani will assume his post this month, and will have a broad portfolio of shaping Pakistan's foreign and defense policies, including serving as a national security adviser to recently appointed Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Haqqani previously served as Pakistan's Ambassador to Sri Lanka and as a political adviser to Pakistani Prime Ministers Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Nawaz Sharif, and Benazir Bhutto.
"We warmly congratulate Husain on his appointment to the ambassadorship, and look forward to supporting him in his new capacity at this important time in U.S.-Pakistan relations," Hudson CEO Kenneth Weinstein said.
