Biography

Jonathan Greenert served as the 30th U.S. Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), the Navy’s highest-ranking officer, from 2011 to 2015. As CNO, he was also a member of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, the senior body advising the President of the United States on military matters. Prior to becoming CNO, he served as Vice CNO, the Navy’s Chief Financial Officer (N8), and the Navy’s Deputy Comptroller. Operationally, he spent a decade leading naval forces in the Indo-Pacific theater as Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet; Deputy Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet; and Commander, U.S. Forces Micronesia. He also commanded U.S. Fleet Forces Command from 2007-09. A nuclear engineer by training and education, he commanded the nuclear submarine USS HONOLULU.

Jon currently serves as a director on corporate boards and as a consultant and advisor. He holds the John M. Shalikashvili Chair in National Security Studies at the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR).
