WASHINGTON, D.C.—Hudson Institute announced the addition of Tom Tugendhat as a distinguished fellow.
“Throughout his exemplary career in British politics and military service, Tom has stood up to the corruption and coercion of authoritarian regimes,” Hudson President and CEO John P. Walters said. “His expertise will be invaluable to Hudson’s efforts to advance American and British interests and revitalize the transatlantic relationship for today’s era of great power competition.”
The Rt. Hon. Tugendhat MP is the member of parliament for Tonbridge, England. He also served in the British government’s Cabinet as security minister from September 2022 to July 2024, responsible for issues including counterterrorism, domestic state threats and economic crime.
From 2017 to 2022, he served as chair of the United Kingdom Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, a role in which he led efforts to expose Russian malign influence and Chinese espionage in the U.K. The Rt. Hon. Tugendhat MP also served as a lieutenant colonel in the British Army and later as the military assistant to the chief of the Defence Staff. As a distinguished fellow at Hudson Institute, he will focus on foreign policy, transatlantic relations, military technology and grand strategy.
“Defending British interests against authoritarian regimes demands thoughtful, strategic solutions and close partnership with the United States. I am honored to join Hudson at this critical time to work on those challenges,” said the Rt. Hon. Tugendhat. “Whether in Ukraine or the Chagos Islands, it is crucial that the U.K. and the U.S. work together and defend each other’s interests. Division is weakness in the eyes of our enemies. I look forward to working with the Institute’s talented experts to advance policies that strengthen the United Kingdom and our U.S. allies while promoting democratic values to safeguard the security, freedom and prosperity of our peoples.”
