Washington— Hudson Institute announced today the formation of the Hamilton Commission on Securing America’s National Security Innovation Base, a bipartisan blue-ribbon commission to examine economic sectors critical to American national security and defense innovation.
Chaired by Hudson Senior Fellows Dr. Arthur Herman and Dr. Nadia Schadlow, members of the Commission include U.S. Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) and former Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Ellen Lord, as well as former EXIM Bank Chairman Kimberly Reed, Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul, and Lt. Gen. Eric Wesley (Ret.), former Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Futures Command (see full list below).
The Commission will convene to propose policy recommendations that reduce U.S. dependence and advance American leadership in the following areas: lithium-ion batteries, semiconductors, and advanced composite materials.
The Commission is named after America’s first secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, who foresaw that America’s economic and national security would depend on the commitment of government policies and resources to advance U.S. leadership in key industries and technologies.
With these goals in mind, Hamilton Commission members—including elected officials of both parties, national security experts, former government and military officials, scientists, engineers, and industry leaders—will identify policy solutions to boost American competitiveness and foster innovation in key sectors, with a focus on building secure and resilient supply chains. By demonstrating how to reduce American dependency on China and other competitors, the Commission will develop solutions that reduce national security vulnerabilities and bolster U.S. economic leadership.
