Long-time Hudson Institute Trustee (most recently Trustee Emeritus) Steuart Pittman has passed away. He was 93. Steuart, who was Assistant Secretary of Defense for Civil Defense in the Kennedy Administration, befriended Herman Kahn in the initial days of the Institute, championed Kahn's ideas on civil defense in the Kennedy administration, and provided critical funding to Hudson in the early days. A proud liberal, Pittman, who built Shaw Pittman, which was one of Washington's premier law firms, became a Trustee Emeritus when his health no longer permitted active service.
