Hudson Institute's Kleptocracy Initiative Launches Website

WASHINGTON, April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hudson Institute announced today that the Kleptocracy Initiative ("KI") has launched its website at "www.kleptocracyinitative.org":http://kleptocracyinitiative.org/.

The website provides research and analysis to journalists, policymakers and members of the general public on the corrupt financial practices of autocratic governments. Known as "kleptocrats," these individuals are violating international law and engaging in territorial aggression that threatens the security of the United States and its allies. Kleptocrats use the Western financial system as a safe haven for their assets, providing United States policymakers with opportunities to combat harmful regimes. The goal of KI's website is to contribute to making this issue public and transparent.

"Corruption is a catalyst of destabilizing political events around the world," said Julie Davidson, Director of Media Operations at the Kleptocracy Initiative. "There are consequences for every American when we help tyrants grow rich by safeguarding what they steal. It is time to sound the alarm and demand that our lawmakers, enforcers, and professionals take action to end this travesty."

The KI website offers research and analysis compiled from reports, news coverage, and investigative sources. It includes an interactive diagram of the Chinese Communist Party's Politburo Standing Committee's suspected financial assets, reports on notable kleptocrats, and a host of additional resources. KI also offers weekly news briefs highlighting the nexus between high-level corruption and U.S. national security.

The Kleptocracy Initiative was founded in 2014 to address the threats posed by authoritarian kleptocracies to Western democracy and U.S. national security. The website is accessible at www.kleptocracyinitiative.org.
