Washington, December 1, 2017 -- Hudson Institute announced today that Ambassador Sorin Ducaru has joined Hudson Institute as a Senior Fellow. In this role, he will focus on developing new approaches to cyber security and defense, including through cooperative international efforts between the U.S. and its closest allies.
“Few individuals know more first-hand than Ambassador Ducaru about the emerging security challenges facing the NATO alliance in the 21st century,” said Ken Weinstein, President and CEO of Hudson Institute. “On cybersecurity, Ducaru will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, deepening Hudson’s policy bench, and allowing us to offer invaluable insights and counsel here in Washington, and around the globe.”
Before joining Hudson, Ambassador Ducaru served for four years as the Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Emerging Security Challenges Division within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In this capacity, he guided policymaking and implementation in cyber defense, counterterrorism, WMD non-proliferation, energy security and the impact of new technologies upon security. He served as the head of NATO’s Cyber Defense Management Board and coordinated NATO’s Science for Peace and Security Program. Prior to his appointment in the NATO International Staff, he was Romania’s Permanent Representative to NATO from 2006 onwards, and also served as Dean of the North Atlantic Council.
Ambassador Ducaru previously served as a spokesperson and advisor to the Minister in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2001 to 2006, he served as Romania’s Ambassador to the United States of America. In 2000–2001, Ambassador Ducaru served as Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations, in New York. He holds a Degree in Applied Electronics from the Bucharest Politechnical University, a MPhil Degree in International Relations from the University of Amsterdam and a PhD degree in International Economics from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest.
