Washington, February 5, 2018 -- Hudson Institute congratulates Walter Russell Mead on becoming a weekly columnist for The Wall Street Journal, as announced by the daily newspaper. In his weekly Global View column, Mead will write on America’s shifting global role, national security, and geopolitical trends of growing consequence.

Mead will continue serving as a distinguished fellow at Hudson Institute, where he has written extensively on American foreign policy and the balance of world powers, the labor model in the 21st century, and new geopolitical trends caused by advanced technology. He has testified extensively before Congress on domestic and national security issues. At Hudson Institute, he has moderated the Dialogues on American Strategy and Statesmanship, a public lecture series featuring policymakers discussing how U.S. foreign policy can support global prosperity, the defense of human rights, and the establishment of a secure and peaceful world order. Mead is also currently the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and Humanities at Bard College in New York.
Previously, Mead served as Editor-At-Large of The American Interest, and from 1997 to 2010, as the Henry A. Kissinger Senior Fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the author of several books, including “Special Providence: American Foreign Policy and How It Changed the World” (Alfred A. Knopf, 2004). Among several honors and prizes, “Special Providence” received the Lionel Gelber Award for best book on international relations. His most recent book, “God and Gold: Britain, America and the Making of the Modern World” (Alfred A. Knopf, 2007), examines 400 years of conflict between Anglophone powers and rivals, ranging from the absolute monarchies of Spain and France, through fascist enemies in the twentieth century, to the threats posed by modern extremist ideologies. The Washington Post and The Economist listed it as one of the best books of the year. His upcoming book, “The Arc of a Covenant: The United States, Israel, and the Fate of the Jewish People” will be published by Alfred A. Knopf later this year.
